## 2. Prerequisites

### Account and Authorization

Before using MaaS, the following prerequisites must be met:

1. **Registered Huawei Cloud account** with real-name authentication. See: [Register Huawei Account and Activate Huawei Cloud](https://support.huaweicloud.com/account/index.html)

2. **ModelArts delegation authorization** completed. This is a necessary prerequisite for using MaaS service. For detailed steps, see `references/iam-policies.md`.

3. **Preset service activated**: Navigate to "Model Inference > Online Inference > Preset Services" in MaaS console, and click "Activate Service" for the target model.

4. **API Key obtained**: Navigate to "Management & Statistics > API Key Management" in MaaS console to create or manage API Keys.

### API Key Management

**Cannot create API Key for the user**, please guide the user to create it themselves:

**API Key Creation URL**: Log in to MaaS console → **Management & Statistics** → **API Key Management** → **Create API Key**

> ⚠️ **Important**: API Key will only be displayed once after creation. Please copy and save it promptly. If the API Key is lost, please create a new one.

API Key Notes:
- Each account can create up to 30 API Keys
- API Keys are region-specific and cannot be used across regions
- API Key takes a few minutes to take effect after creation
- API Key tags cannot be modified after creation

### IAM Permission Requirements

This skill requires the following IAM permissions:

- `ModelArts CommonOperations` - Use ModelArts service (recommended for sub-users)
- `OBS OperateAccess` - Object storage service access
- `SWR OperateAccess` - Container registry access
- `CES FullAccess` - Cloud Eye monitoring
- `SMN FullAccess` - Message notification service

Detailed permission policies and configuration instructions: `references/iam-policies.md`

### Permission Failure Handling

When any operation encounters a permission error, MUST follow this process:

1. **Identify permission error** - Check if error message contains keywords like "Access Restricted", "Insufficient Permissions", "Missing Permissions"
2. **Refer to permission documentation** - Immediately guide user to view `references/iam-policies.md`
3. **Display permission list** - Show user the required permission list
4. **Guide permission configuration** - Guide user to configure permissions in Huawei Cloud IAM console or ModelArts Permission Management
5. **Pause and wait for confirmation** - Wait for user to confirm permission configuration is complete

## 3. Core Workflow/Process

### Step 1: Determine Customer Needs

- Ask: "What type of model do you want to invoke?"
  - Text Generation/Dialogue, Deep Thinking, Image Understanding, Image Generation, Video Generation, Text Embedding, Rerank

- If customer **has not specified a specific model**:
  - **Option A**: Ask about use case/scenario, recommend appropriate models (see Recommended Models table in Section 4)
  - **Option B**: List all available models for customer to choose (see `references/model-list.md`)
- When listing models, include model information: model parameter, capabilities, context length, supported features, etc.

### Step 2: Provide Invocation Information

After customer selects a specific model, provide:

1. **Invocation URL** - Based on model type and customer preference
   - For large language models, if customer hasn't specified preference, provide all supported API formats (MaaS Standard V2, OpenAI Compatible, Anthropic Compatible) and explain differences
   - **Note: Not all models support all API interface types**, must check model's supported API types in `references/api-interfaces.md`
2. **Model Name** - The `model` parameter value (e.g., `deepseek-v3.2`)
3. **API Key Creation URL** - MaaS Console → Management & Statistics → API Key Management
4. **Code Examples** - See `references/code-examples.md` and `references/code-examples-advanced.md`

### Step 3: Provide Code Examples

Provide code examples based on customer's preferred programming language:
- Python (requests library)
- Curl
- OpenAI Python SDK
- Java (JDK 15+)

See `references/code-examples.md` for text generation/deep thinking/streaming/multi-turn examples.
See `references/code-examples-advanced.md` for image understanding/image generation/video generation/embedding/rerank examples.

### Step 4: Ask About Additional Needs

- Ask: **"Do you need guidance on integrating with other development tools?"**
  - If yes, list available tools for customer to choose:
    - OpenClaw, OpenCode, Claude Code, Dify, Cherry Studio, Cursor, Cline, RAGFlow, Deep Research
  - See `references/dev-tools-integration.md` for specific integration guidance

### Step 5: Pricing Reminder

Remind the user that MaaS supports the following three billing methods:

#### Method 1: Pay-per-use

- Remind the user: **"For specific pricing, please refer to MaaS pricing details: https://www.huaweicloud.com/pricing/calculator.html#/maas"**

#### Method 2: Package Plan Billing

Package plans are only supported by some models (for specific supported models, please refer to the purchase link). Users can purchase a package plan on the Huawei Cloud website first, and when invoking MaaS preset services, billing will be based on the actual number of Tokens used.

- **Package plan purchase link**: https://activity.huaweicloud.com/openclaw.html
- Specific prices, promotional information, and constraints are subject to the activity page and purchase page
- **Usage scope**: Package plans only support deducting input Tokens and output Tokens consumed by online experience or API invocation of DeepSeek models using the "Model Inference > Online Inference > Preset Services" or "Model Inference > Online Inference > Custom Access Points" feature
- **Billing rules**: To ensure normal business operation, billing will prioritize the package plan quota. Excess usage will be automatically charged at the normal price based on the Token usage of the model. To stop billing, please stop invoking the service promptly. No charges will be incurred if the service is not used.
- **Usage region**: Package plans are bound to the region selected at purchase and can only be used in that region
- **Package plan deduction order**: For multiple package plans of the same model, billing will deduct in the following order: earliest expiration time > earliest effective time > earliest creation time
- **Unsubscription policy**: Purchased package plans cannot be unsubscribed. Please confirm before purchasing.

#### Method 3: MaaS Token Plan Billing

Token Plan is a subscription service designed specifically for developers and is only supported by some models. Users can go to the MaaS console "Management & Statistics > Subscription Management" page to purchase a Token Plan, and then use it in AI tools such as Claude Code and OpenClaw.

- **Token Plan details and supported models**: Please go to the MaaS console "Management & Statistics > Subscription Management" page to view, or refer to `references/token-plan.md`
- Be sure to use models supported by Token Plan and the dedicated Base URL. If the specified dedicated Base URL is not used, the Token Plan quota cannot be used, and additional API request charges may be incurred.
- Purchased plans cannot be unsubscribed

> **Important**: **Do not directly tell the user the pricing**, and do not tell the user which models support package plan and Token Plan billing. You can provide the relevant links directly and let the user check the links.

## 10. Notes

### Security Tips

- **API Key security**: Never expose API Key in code, logs, or conversations
- **Principle of least privilege**: Grant only necessary IAM permissions
- **Regular rotation**: Regularly delete old API Keys and create new ones
- **Data privacy**: MaaS does not retain user data for model training

### Limitations

- **Regional restrictions**: All MaaS model services only support **西南-贵阳一** region
- **API Key limits**: Max 30 API Keys per account, region-specific, takes minutes to take effect
- **Rate limiting**: Different models have different TPM/RPM limits
- **API interface support**: Not all models support all API interface types (V2, OpenAI, Anthropic, V1)
- **Preset service**: Cannot be deactivated once activated (no charges when not used)

### Known Issues

1. **API Key activation delay**: API Key takes a few minutes to become effective after creation
2. **DeepSeek-V3.1 constraints**: Function Call and deep thinking are not compatible; deep thinking doesn't support prefix continuation
3. **Video generation async**: Video generation is asynchronous, task data retained for 24 hours only
4. **Image size limits**: Base64-encoded images must be < 10MB
5. **MaaS Standard API V1**: No longer evolving, recommend using V2

### Troubleshooting

Common errors and solutions:

1. **401 Authentication failed**: Check API Key is correct and has taken effect
2. **404 Model not found**: Check model parameter name is correct
3. **429 Rate limit exceeded**: Reduce request frequency, implement retry with backoff
4. **ModelArts.81101 Too Many Requests**: Rate limited, wait and retry
5. **Service frozen**: Account may be in arrears, recharge to unfreeze

Please refer to `references/troubleshooting-guide.md` for other known issues.
